This year at Goldilocks Herriman our sponsor, Infinite Cycles wanted to try something new. In the past they have given away a road bike, but we wanted more people to have an opportunity to win a fabulous prize, so we have come up with a plan.

While riding, if you see this sign, keep your eyes peeled… a gnome will be hidden (in plain sight) within the next 1/4 mile. Gnomes will also be ‘hidden’ at all the rest stops. If you find the gnome, please peel off the paper with a number on the bottom of the gnome and bring the paper (not the gnome) to the finish line to claim your prize. Please leave the gnome for the next group to find. Prizes are everything from a Goldilocks jersey to cycling shoes to water bottles. Every route has equal opportunity to win, after the 100 mile riders pass a gnome and find it, and new number will be placed on the bottom for the 80 mile riders and so on. 40 prizes in all, limited to one prize per person.

The gnomes are 8″ tall and come in pink, blue, and green. Fun right? Good luck!

Can someone else pick up my packet for me? Yes. You will need to send them with a signed waiver. You can download and print that here.

Is there packet pickup the morning of the event? Yes. We will have emergency packet pickup on Saturday morning at Butterfield Park for those who could not make it any other time. Please arrive a half hour before your start time in case there is a line. Please do not pick up your packet before that time, unless there is no line. We hate to have a line of 60 mile riders that prevents a 100 mile rider from picking up their packet and starting on time.

What time should I arrive? Please arrive at the park at least a half hour before your start time. That will give you time to get your gear ready, fill your water bottles, and be ready to go.

Can I leave earlier than my start time? Yes, but I would rather you didn’t. I cannot guarantee that all rest stops on your route will be open by the time you arrive.

Where do I park? Goldilocks riders will park in the rodeo grounds next to the park, not the paved parking lot. There will be nice Papa Bears there ready to park you Disneyland style and direct you to the pavilion.

BATHROOMS? The pavilion at Butterfield Park has lots of lovely flushing potties for you ladies to use before you begin your ride. You don’t have to line up to use the one in the Rodeo grounds… (although you are welcome to use it) come on in to the party and the pavilion and use the bathroom there. All the stops have glamorous, clean porta potties.

Will roads be closed? Police will hold traffic as each wave of riders leave the park. The will continue to do this until you are spaced out enough to ride comfortably single file. If you are arriving at the park when a wave of riders is leaving, you may be stopped by police for a few minutes as the ladies ride past. (Be sure to cheer, but not honk. (: ) Please remember you are a vehicle on the road and follow all traffic signs and signals.

What food will be served at the rest stops? All the rest stops will be stocked with fresh fruit, bananas and oranges, Swedish fish, pretzels, wheat thins, hard candy, fig newtons, oreos, licorice, and a pb&j buffet. Water and Gatorade. Love and Encouragement.

Can I exchange my shirt for a different size? Yes. If your shirt doesn’t fit, or we gave you the wrong size, please bring it to the event. We will be happy to exchange it there for one that is ‘just right’.

Will there be ‘ditch bags’ at the stops? Yes. Dress warm in the morning knowing you can leave your gear at any of our stops and we will return it to the finish line for you.

Can I change my mileage? Yes. Just pick up the appropriate wrist band or map at packet pickup or the morning of the event.

What if I need help? Have a flat? Broken chain? Tired bum or legs? There is a phone number on the back of our maps (801-446-6247) that will connect you with our Papa Bear dispatch. Give them a call and they will come and rescue you!

Am I registered for Goldilocks Herriman 2012?

I get a couple requests every day from ladies wondering if they, or their friend, or the sister, or their daughter are registered for Goldilocks Herriman 2012. All though I am sure this is your fault for not keeping proper records… the amount of inquiries leads me to believe I may have done something wrong. (gasp!) I have the list of all registered riders here.

FAQ’s about selling your registration…

We are sorry you couldn’t make it… but glad someone else has had a chance to ride with us! The transfer of your registration goes something like this…

The buyer will pick up the packet (including the size of t-shirt ordered by the seller) at the Packet Pickup. (see event details for more information about packet pickup times and locations.)
Please notify the Packet Pickup Person that you bought someone’s registration. You will need to sign your own waiver.
Also, please state what mileage you intend to ride (it does not matter what the seller registered for) so we can get you the appropriate map and wrist band.

Packet Pickup: Meridian Event

Our Packet Pickup Party will be held at Meridian Cycles (830 N. Main Street, Meridian, Idaho) on Friday, July 8th from 5:00-9:00 pm. If you can’t make it to the party, you can pick up your packet from 6:00 – 9:00 am the morning of the event atSettlers Park. If you want to have a friend pick up your packet, please print out, sign, and send in the Idaho Waiver 2011. We will not be able to ‘check in’ anyone without a signed waiver.

Please take note that the start times have changed to 7:00 am for the 60 milers, 8:00 am for the 40 milers, and 9:00 am for the 20 milers. Please arrive at the park at least 1/2 hour before your start time.

A beautiful bike for the Meridian Riders

I went and visited the Boise/Meridian area of Idaho the last couple of days, what a pleasure! On Wednesday night as part of Boise Bike Week (great idea Boise!) I participated in a 20 mile women only ride put on by our sponsor, Meridian Cycles. The Idaho ladies are a delight to ride with! They take their hand signals and safety seriously, and are welcoming and chatty, even with an ‘outsider’. The route we took piggy backed much of the Goldilocks route, and it was beautiful. Open fields, big red barns, horses, and cows, and sheep (oh my!) it was a wonderful ride. I didn’t know in Idaho you can treat stop signs and stop lights as a yield (correction: stop sign as a yield, stop light as a 4-way stop). I still think you should stop (safety first!), but on those stupid lights that will never change for a bicycle, it sure came in handy!

I stopped in Meridian Cycles on the way out of town, and with very little arm twisting, I talked Mr. Meridian Cycles (Paul McKenna) into giving this incredible Felt Cruiser, named Claire, away to a participant in our Goldilocks Idaho Event! Every registered rider is entered into the drawing that will take place at the end of the event. Thanks for having me Idaho, I think I am in love!

Minor Adjustments to Route

Unfortunately with the warmer weather construction is also popping up everywhere. We still have a couple sections you will need to navigate, but they are brief and we are having the streets cleaned of gravel and debris. SR-73 (Cedar Fort Road) will be impassible by bike on Saturday. We have re-routed you to Pony Express Parkway. It is a great road, with a marked bike lane, but a bugger of a hill. It may be as bad as the hill on SR-73, but it is shorter and steeper. You can do it! In fact, for most of you it will be no problem at all.

Where to park? When to arrive? Bathrooms!?

Please enter Butterfield Park on the West side of the Park, off of 6400 West. It is the Rodeo Ground entrance for Butterfield Park and there is plenty of parking there. We will have gentlemen there to guide you to your parking spot. Please don’t use the entrance off of Butterfield Park Way. The riders will be leaving from that entrance, and we need to leave parking in the main lots for Baseball and other activities at the park that day.

You will walk to the BIG pavilion. You will pass bathrooms on the way to the pavilion that are used for the rodeo grounds. Please feel free to use them, but we do have PLENTY of bathrooms at the pavilion. Last year we developed a line at the rodeo bathrooms because ladies were unaware of the bathroom facilities at the pavilion. The pavilion will be the staging area for all of Goldilocks, so don’t hang out in the parking lot… come on it! We will have packet pickup (for those who haven’t yet), shopping, a photobooth, music, and gatorade and snacks to fill your pockets before you head out.

No matter your start time, please try to arrive before 7:00 am if possible. After 7:00 am the roads will be a bit crowded with cyclists… and maneuvering around may be slow and tricky, but possible.
